Fragrance Story

An unexpected summer rainstorm prompted your earlier retreat from the beach back to the apartment. You offer tea and a plate of fruit, but these are just an interlude. Swimsuits are hastily removed and thrown at the foot of the bed. The smell of sunscreen still lingers on the skin. As the sun sets below the horizon, everything that was saturated in a hazy gold slowly settles into an ombré of blue, indigo, and violet. You imagine the glowing embers of piñon burning and a spliff shared in bed are fireflies, and you both laugh at your private joke. There is an unspoken agreement your time together is ephemeral; in the morning it will be time to part ways. For now, simply take in the air of hyacinth and magnolia making its way from an open window. The details will be blurry later, in a delicious sort of way.
